Counselling
I work with individuals and couples: I am experienced in helping clients who have experienced difficulties with many different issues including:Regain control in your life.
Think things through.
See a difficult situation more clearly.
Sort out your feelings.
Get things in perspective or see things differently.
Make difficult decisions.
Come to terms with difficult or upsetting life events happening now or in the past.
Many people have nowhere to talk about what is on their mind. Individuals usually come to counselling to talk things through with someone who is unconnected with their own life. This "safe place" enables the client to focus on their own needs and feelings, without worrying about being judged or hurting someone’s feelings. Many people worry about upsetting others or what others think of them – and end up not knowing how they feel themselves.
Lots of people are nervous or reluctant to admit they would like to talk things through with a counsellor. Most people cope very well by simply getting on with their lives, but sometimes it feels like no-one wants to listen. The decision to see a counsellor is usually made as a result of a difficult time or trauma, either now or in the past. The "straw that broke the camel’s back" is often what makes us consider the possibility of counselling. You might notice you are not coping as well as usual but not really know why.
Couples often come to counselling as a last resort or when things have gone badly wrong in the relationship. Counselling can help to:
Mend a relationship or make the ending more manageable.
Create a space where each person can say what they need the other to hear.
Tell the other how they feel.
Start to see each others point of view.
See things in the relationship which are overlooked in every day life.
Appointments are usually 1 hour long and 1 week apart, but this can be fortnightly or monthly. Much of the "work" happens between sessions. Things may start to make sense or fall into place. Sometimes clients change things in their lives and the next session may be spent on how those changes feel.
Fees are £40 (individuals) - £45 (couples)per hour.
I also offer Person- Centred Counselling Supervision.
Fees for supervision are £40 per hour with reduced fees for students.
